Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada

The "79th Highlanders of Canada" was formed in 1910 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and became 10 years later the "Cameron Highlanders of Canada". In 1923, the prefix "royal" was incorporated into the title and the regiment became the "Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada".

They engaged their first fight during the raid on Dieppe, August 19, 1942 precisely on the beach of Pourville-sur-Mer to support the "South Saskatchewan Regiment". At the end of this raid, the regiment lost 76 soldiers.


In July 1944, the "Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada" was one of the Canadian troops which participated in the Battle of Normandy in 1944. It joined the 2nd Canadian division in operations "Atlantic", "Spring" and "Totalize" for the taking from the town of "Falaise" in the "Calvados" department in France.


This regiment was dissolved on November 30, 1945.
